Following the team’s greatly improved performance in their first nine league games this season, Black Leopards FC president David “Tshifhe” Thidiela has appealed to supporters to show their love and support by attending games in large numbers. His plea comes after Lidoda Duvha’s two successive victories.
The Thohoyandou side are still celebrating after defeating Cape Town Spurs 2-1 at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town last Sunday. Two weeks earlier, they beat Durban City by the same margin at Thohoyandou Stadium. These victories have lifted Black Leopards from fifth to second place on the log standings with 17 points, three behind Milford FC.
In an interview, the former Premier Soccer League Board of Governors member said the team’s success was the result of hard work and dedication from both management and players. He added that with both parties performing diligently, it was now up to supporters to demonstrate their loyalty by filling the stands for home matches.
The 73-year-old Thidiela emphasised that strong home support will boost the players’ morale and help them push for promotion to the Betway Premiership division.
However, Thidiela expressed concern about the red cards the team has accumulated in recent weeks. Team captain Thendo Mukumela was sent off in last Sunday’s game against Cape Town Spurs, while defender Tebogo Makobela remains suspended after receiving a red card in the match against JDR Stars at Soshanguve Giant Stadium outside Pretoria three weeks ago.
