With eight Motsepe Foundation Championship League (MFC) matches played so far, the race for the league’s top goal scorer is heating up. Keabetswe Rakosa of Upington City currently leads with four goals. His team has scored a total of 11 goals while conceding six.
Michael Khanyi of Hungry Lions follows closely with three goals. Other players who have also scored three goals each include Thabang Leepile and Bennet Mokwena, both from Upington City, as well as Ronny Van Neel of Hungry Lions.
Despite playing only two matches since joining Venda Football Club (VFC) in early October, Judas Moseamedi has already made an impact. The former Maritzburg United striker has helped his team secure two wins out of the eight games played so far. Moseamedi scored the decisive goal in VFC’s first win of the season against Kruger United at Thohoyandou Stadium two weeks ago.
He came on as a substitute toward the end of the game and scored VFC's winning goal in their 3-2 victory over Casric Stars at Soshanguve Giant Stadium near Pretoria last Saturday.
A total of 17 players have scored the same number of goals as Moseamedi, including Black Leopards’ strikers Mwape Musonda and Bethuel Muzeu.
VFC’s head coach, Vladislav Heric, is optimistic that Moseamedi will help solve the team’s scoring challenges, once he regains full fitness. Heric noted that the 30-year-old striker was still working on his fitness after being without a club for several months prior to joining the Thohoyandou side.
