Teams wishing to participate in this year’s Apollo Soccer Tournament must register before the deadline. According to the tournament director, Mr Teddy Ritshuri, the registration window opened on Monday. Ritshuri explained that registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
As in previous years, 16 teams from around Vhembe are expected to compete for the championship. Ritshuri added that the registration window would close once proof of payment had been received from the 16th team. The registration fee is R650, and the tournament will be held at the Matatshe Materetere Grounds from 8 to 16 December.
This year’s tournament is set to be the largest yet in terms of sponsorship. The champions will take home a substantial R12,000, along with a floating trophy and gold medals. The runners-up will receive R5,000 and silver medals. A prize of R3,000 awaits the team that finishes third, while the fourth-place team will go home with R1,500.
