'Vha Mutakalo' release a new album, Shakalimphani

A duo specialising in house music, Hulisani Mafelatshuma (better known as Jicksbeatz) and Hlonipho Amukelani Khosa (known as Amu Vocals), has released a new 12-track album titled Shakalimphani.

The duo, popularly known as “Vha Mutakalo”, believes that music should address societal issues. Their songs tackle challenges faced by teenagers, including unwanted pregnancies, alcohol and drug abuse, and a lack of respect for the elderly. Through their music, they aim to provide guidance on becoming responsible citizens.

“This is our best album yet, and that is why we dedicated it to the Lord, giving thanks for all He has done for us. The road thus far has not always been smooth, but the Lord has helped us to soldier on,” they said.

Mafelatshuma, who hails from Shayandima, and Khosa, from Itsani, are currently helping other musicians to develop their careers. They also coach young and aspiring artists, assisting them with recordings.

According to Mafelatshuma, producing a quality album takes time. He also criticised music pirates, stating that they were stealing the livelihoods of artists and contributing to the decline of the music industry.

They are currently making a living by performing at small venues across the country. “Big promoters overlook us for larger gigs, but we can still make a living from the shows we have all over the country. With the support we are receiving, we will not tire of delivering good music to our fans,” he said.
