The Nzhelele community is mourning the loss of Chief Khathutshelo Sydney Mamuha, who passed away on Wednesday, 30 October, after a short illness. Chief Mamuha, a respected figure known for his humility and dedication to service, had led Dzanani for the past eight years.
Born on 6 August 1982 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital to Mr Piet Mulatedzi Mamuha and Mrs Mabel Radebe, Khathutshelo Mamuha was raised in Nzhelele. He began his education at Dzanani Junior Primary and Nzhelele Senior Primary School before completing his matric at Mphephu Secondary School. Driven to expand his skills, he later pursued studies in office administration and computer studies at college.
Chief Mamuha started his career in administration at a local law firm, later joining Siloam Hospital on 1 March 2009 as an office administrator for EMS. Known for his warmth and reliability, he was a beloved colleague and a calming presence, handling each task with care and efficiency. His tenure at the hospital continued until his passing, leaving a significant void among his colleagues.
In 2015, following the passing of his father, he assumed his family’s traditional role in serving the Dzanani community. From 2016 onward, he officially served as the community’s traditional leader.
Chief Mamuha is survived by his wife, Khathutshelo Mamuha (Sintsha), whom he married in February 2016. Together, they shared a life filled with love and laughter and were blessed with two children: Phophi, aged 7, and Mudodzwi, who is only four months old. He is also survived by his mother, his elder brother, and his extended family, who remember him as a pillar of strength and grace.
“He was a rare leader; someone who truly cared and was always there when we needed him,” said a community member. Others spoke of Chief Mamuha’s compassion and selfless dedication, highlighting how his presence brought unity and peace to those he served.
A memorial service and the funeral service was held on Wednesday, 6 October.
