Will Orbit College manage to stop Maunavhathu?

After collecting maximum points in their last two Motsepe Foundation Championship League matches, Venda Football Club (VFC) are poised to crush Orbit College FC when they meet at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams come into the match riding high after their victories last weekend. VFC beat Casric Stars 3-2 at the Soshanguve Giant Stadium, while Orbit College secured a 2-1 win over Upington City at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington.

A win for the Rustenburg-based Orbit College against VFC would boost their promotion chances. Orbit currently sits in seventh position with 13 points, four points behind the log leaders, Milford FC.

A quick glance at Orbit College’s track record reveals they are not strong travellers; three of their four wins have been home games. Although their strikers are challenging to stop, Orbit College’s defence has proven unreliable, with the team scoring eight goals and conceding seven in the eight games they have played so far.

VFC have won two of their last three matches under the guidance of head coach Mr. Vladislav Heric. The Serbian mentor has vowed to lift the team out of the relegation zone soon, then shift his focus to competing for the league championship. He stated that Maunavhathu, as they are affectionately known, have what it takes to lift the league title at the end of the current season.

The striking combination of Judas Moseamedi, Daniel Gozar, and Thifhelimbilu Magalela for VFC cannot be underestimated. A win for VFC against Orbit College on Saturday could elevate the Thohoyandou side from 15th to ninth position on the log. Despite winning their last two games, VFC still sit in the second-last spot on the standings.
