Vhuhwavho Makhaga, a voice for the community and mental health

Univen Radio current affairs host and weekend news reader, Vhuhwavho Makhaga, is not just an ordinary radio personality; she is a passionate advocate for community development.

Born in Ngwenani ya Themeli, this multifaceted media personality also champions mental-health awareness. She serves as the public relations officer for the Pfunzo Foundation, a non-profit organisation addressing the mental-health and academic challenges faced by learners in Limpopo.

Vhuhwavho's radio journey began in 2023 at Vuwani FM, and she later transitioned to Univen FM, her current station. Her talents extend beyond radio as she explores voice-over opportunities and other forms of creative expression.

Her passion for radio ignited during her university days while pursuing media studies at Univen. “I have always listened to local stations and admired the power of storytelling. I was captivated by the intimacy and connection between hosts and listeners,” she said.

Vhuhwavho believes that radio has the power to educate, entertain, and uplift communities while also providing the creative freedom to express herself and share diverse perspectives. “Growing up, I was fascinated by the engaging voices on the radio, which sparked my curiosity. Friends and family often complimented my voice, encouraging me to pursue opportunities. My parents have been instrumental in nurturing my interests, offering unwavering support. Their faith in me has been a constant motivator, driving me to seize opportunities and push beyond boundaries,” she explained.

Beyond broadcasting, Vhuhwavho is dedicated to making a positive impact in her community. Her work focuses on empowering the youth, fostering kindness, and bridging gaps created by socio-economic disparities. “I envision myself expanding my reach through various media platforms, continuing to advocate for mental-health awareness and kindness,” she said.
