Takalani Raduvha shines at the 48 Hour Film Project

An award-winning author, cultural practitioner, and filmmaker from Madombidzha, Takalani Tshinesa Raduvha, won two awards at the 48 Hour Film Project, held in Durban on Friday and Saturday.

Raduvha received awards in the categories of Best Viewer’s Choice and Best Use of Prop.

The 48 Hour Film competition is held on different weekends in various cities throughout the year. In each city, local film teams – from beginners to professionals – compete to make a short film in just one weekend. The first event took place in Washington, DC, in 2001, and it has since grown into a global competition staged in more than 100 cities worldwide.

Raduvha is no stranger to the film industry, having first entered the stage-drama sector in 2012. In 2017, she joined the cast of the SABC 2 soap opera Muvhango, playing the role of Awelani Nedzamba. She also portrayed Maalazwanda (a prosecutor) in a Phalaphala FM soap opera. Additionally, she is a facilitator at the Baiskop Ya Rona Film Festival in Limpopo.

She was confident about winning an award at the Durban competition. “I just knew I was going to come back home with an award,” she said, expressing her appreciation for the friends and family who have supported her journey so far.

For Raduvha, promoting the arts is important, and she dedicates her spare time to training children from different schools who are passionate about the arts. “I have a burning desire to nurture the talent of young people, especially those from my communities,” she said.

Her message to up-and-coming artists is: “Do not despair or give up on your dreams. Keep being creative in what you’re good at. One day, it will make sense. No one believed in me when I started, but today I am almost there, and people are beginning to take notice. I have high hopes of reaching my goal,” she said.
