Singer and music producer Mikzo from Chavani is fast becoming a brand name in local music circles. His second EP, Deep 2 Motions Chapter One, which was released three months ago, was an instant hit with the fans and continues to grow in popularity.

Mikzo first gained recognition in 2017 when he released a single, called Nwana Malumza. Since then he has released two albums, Bambelela Volume 1 and 2, along with several other singles.

His music is influenced by artists such as DJ Cleo, Freddy Gwala and Brazo Wa Afrika. Growing up with a diverse musical background, including deep house, afro house and soul, he created his own unique genre, called Afrosoulyano. “My latest four-track EP is gaining more favour from fans by the day. One of the songs on the album, Mellow, which features G Man and Manotry, seems to be a favourite,” he said.

The 25-year-old artist, born Mixo Sithole, started his music journey in 2011, working with his uncle, Matimba Sithole, known as Deejay Matimba. He initially produced Xitsonga music, but after two years, he transitioned to deep house music. “As I took that step, I realised the calling I had, and I understood well that I had to keep working hard to reach the level I am at now. I keep in mind that I am African and always want to sound African in my music. My music has a soulful, spiritual, afro sound to it,” he said.

In 2020, he established a recording company, called EHE (Exclusive House Entertainment) Records. “I managed to sign eight artists, both men and women. I am currently working on a project with Mukosi Muimbi, which I believe will be a breakthrough for me,” he said.
