Light aircraft crashes at Masakona village

A light aircraft crashed at Hamasakona village at around 07:00 on Tuesday. The plane was reportedly en route from one of the ZZ2 farms at Mooketsi to Musina when it experienced mechanical problems and had to make an emergency landing. The plane carried four people, but luckily, no one was seriously injured. Scores of residents rushed to the scene shortly after it landed but fortunately found that the occupants could emerge almost unscathed.

An eyewitness, Mr Ndzalama Tsuvuka, recounted the scene as the plane descended rapidly and ultimately crashed. “Everyone was running towards the scene, and it was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. We were glad no one was injured. We were surprised, because it’s the first time we’ve come across a plane crash in this village,” he said.

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety spokesperson Ms Tidimalo Chuene confirmed the incident and said: “The pilot reported trying to land due to mechanical failure and hit a tree. There were four occupants, including the pilot. One passenger had a scratch on the head, but there were no serious injuries,” said Chuene.
