Well-known young prophet shot dead in his vehicle

Ndivhuwo Matshaya, better known as Prophet Matshaya of the Power of Light Divine Ministries in Hamakuya-Domboni village, was tragically shot dead at Thengwe-Mutangula on Wednesday, 28 August.

A spokesperson for the Matshaya and Guduvheni families, Ms Mushaisano Guduvheni, expressed their shock and grief over the gruesome killing. Matshaya was the grandchild of the late Vho Mashudu Alice Guduvheni, who was buried on Saturday, 17 August. Vho Guduvheni was renowned for designing and making beautiful traditional attire.

“We are in deep mourning because Prophet Matshaya was part of the organising team for his grandmother’s burial. We want to see the suspects arrested and face the full force of the law,” said Guduvheni.

Vhakoma Vho David Madzivhe of Thengwe-Mutangula expressed concern about the recent increase in crime in the area. He stated that Matshaya had been shot and his body later dumped in Matshaya’s village. “We would like to see the suspects arrested, so that they can explain why they shot and killed someone and left the body in Thengwe,” he said. Madzivhe noted that neither the deceased nor the suspects were residents of the village.

Acting Vhembe SAPS spokesperson W/O Vuledzani Dathi confirmed that the Mutale police are investigating a murder case involving a 26-year-old male who was shot and killed at Thengwe-Mutangula village on 28 August at approximately 21:30.

Dathi reported that police were alerted to a shooting incident at Thengwe-Mutangula and, upon arrival, they found a Toyota D4D bakkie parked at the end of the street, with the deceased lying next to it. An eyewitness indicated that the deceased was shot by one of the three men who were with him in the vehicle. The motive for the murder remains unknown, but Matshaya was allegedly invited by one of the suspects to pray for his sick grandmother. While en route, the suspect allegedly forced Matshaya to move from the driver's seat to the passenger seat before shooting him.

Two passengers who were in the loading box of the bakkie managed to escape unharmed and ran to the police station. The suspect is known but still at large.

Anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts can contact the investigating officer, Capt Tshilande Milingoni Alpheus, at (082) 414-9291.
