Humbulani Nengovhela determined to bring SATMA home this year

For the past two years, SABC radio presenter Humbulani Muphirimia Nengovhela has received SATMA nominations but has not won any awards. This year, he earned a nomination in the Best Traditional Music: SABC Radio Presenter of the Year category. This marks the 19th instalment of the SATMAs.

The outcome of the competition is determined by public voting, which closes on 29 November, with the awards taking place in Durban on 30 November.

Nengovhela, who is also the founder of the Muphirimia Foundation that supports disabled people, presents a traditional-music programme, Nambi ya Dzinambi, on SABC's Phalaphala FM. The popular programme airs on Saturdays from 9:00 to 11:00.

“For the past two years, I have watched others ascend the stage to receive the award with envy, and all along I have told myself that I will one day go up on stage to receive the award. I believe this is my year. I have already started working on a programme, embarked on a campaign, and assembled a strong team for the task,” he said.

Nengovhela stated that the nomination meant a lot to him. “It simply shows that people are happy with my style of presenting the programme, which is very popular and commands a large following,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude for the support. “Some of my fans are also sending me screenshots to show that they have voted. This gives me more courage. To boost my campaign, I will also be organising gigs to motivate my beautiful people to vote,” Muphirimia said.

To vote, send an SMS to 32436 with the message: 111SATMA19.
