VFC must prove the weekend win was not just a fluke

After registering their first victory against Kruger United, whom they defeated 1-0 at Thohoyandou Stadium last Saturday, Venda Football Club (VFC) are poised to collect more points when they face Casric Stars in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, outside Pretoria, on Saturday afternoon.

VFC’s performance has improved dramatically, following the appointment of Mr. Vladislav Heric as head coach three weeks ago. Last Saturday’s win was VFC’s first in seven games. While VFC, also known as Maunavhathu, are in high spirits from their debut victory, Casric Stars are still reeling from their 0-1 loss to Leruma United last Saturday.

The Stars will face a daunting task in trying to contain Maunavhathu’s attacking trio of Judas Moseamedi, Dangelo Kazeem, and Daniel Gozar. Moseamedi scored the decisive goal in VFC’s win against Kruger United.

During an interview after the team’s training session on Tuesday, the Serbian coach said Casric Stars would need to double their efforts if they hoped to beat VFC. He added that morale was high in the VFC camp. Despite their recent victory, VFC are not yet out of danger, sitting in second-last position on the log with four points. Casric Stars, on the other hand, are in fifth place with 13 points, just two points behind log leaders Durban City.

Black Leopards will host Durban City at Thohoyandou Stadium on the same day. After suffering a 0-1 defeat to Durban City last Friday, Baroka FC will play their second match in a row when they visit Pretoria Callies at Soshanguve Giant Stadium on Saturday. Other fixtures include Hungry Lions vs University of Pretoria, Kruger United vs Cape Town Spurs, Upington City vs Orbit College, and Milford FC vs Leruma United.
