VFC ready to demolish the students

Venda Football Club (VFC) have reason to believe that they will teach the Orbit College students a soccer lesson when they meet in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday afternoon. VFC are in the right frame of mind after they managed to collect the full points in their match against Hungry Lions, which was played at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington two weeks ago.

Although they collected vital points against Hungry Lions, VFC’s future as an affiliate of the Motsepe Foundation Championship League is still hanging by a thread. The team is currently battling for survival in the second-last position on the log standings with 19 points, one above the tail-enders, Platinum City Rovers.

Orbit College will be fighting with the aim of exacting sweet revenge for the 0-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of VFC in their first-round league match, played at the Soshanguve Giant Stadium outside Pretoria on Saturday, 28 October. Despite their being rookies in the Motsepe Foundation Championship League, underestimating Orbit College would be a suicidal mistake for VFC. Orbit College is one of the top three teams, having deposited 33 points into their league account so far, just one behind the pace setters, University of Pretoria FC.

The chairman of VFC, Mr Itani Munzhelele, is adamant that the team’s fortunes will soon change and that they are still hopeful that VFC will be among the top three teams at the end of the season. To demonstrate their seriousness about promotion, VFC has beefed up its ailing squad by roping in a number of experienced players, including Bongolwethu Siyasi, Tiklas Thutlwa, Siyabonga Nkosi, and the former Black Leopards’ goalkeeper, Rotshidzwa Muleka.

The other fixtures are Casric Stars vs Black Leopards, Milford FC vs Hungry Lions, JDR Stars vs Upington City, Pretoria Callies vs Marumo Gallants, and Magesi FC vs Baroka FC.
