The quarter-final matches of the Lumveleni Soccer Tournament will be played at the Ngudza Grounds outside Thohoyandou on Saturday. All eyes will be on the opening match between Manamani Blue Birds and Vondwe United Brothers, scheduled to start at 09:30.
United Brothers will be lucky if they manage to beat Blue Birds and secure a place in the semis, judging by the Birds’ performance in their game against Dangerous Scorpions. Blue Birds are still in joyous mood after beating Vhufuli Dangerous Scorpions 6-0 in their last-16-round match at the same venue last Sunday.
United Brothers must keep an eye on Mikhongelo Mahlaule and Tivani Mabasa, or else they will concede an avalanche of goals. Mabasa scored five of his team’s six goals when Blue Birds brutally walloped Dangerous Scorpions last Sunday.
Manamani City is gearing up for a tough match against Tshikovha Arsenal, scheduled to kick off at 11:30. Manamani City’s way to the quarter-final round went via Mukumbani Shooting Stars, whom they beat 4-2 at the same venue two weeks ago. City’s forwards, Azwipfali Thangavhuelelo and Rofhiwa Mathada, will cause havoc in Arsenal’s danger area if not well contained. Mathada scored a brace in their game against Mukumbani Shooting Stars.
Matangari Settlers and Ngudza Young Vultures will follow suit shortly after midday. Mighty Super Power and Tshikambe FC will wrap up the day’s programme. Tshikambe did the unexpected when they beat Ngwenani Young Chiefs 13-12 in their last-16-round match. The winner was determined through a penalty shootout after a 4-4 draw at the end of regulation time.
