Another young man stabbed to death at local tavern

Yet another young man has been stabbed to death at a local liquor outlet, this time in Madombidzha village, early on Sunday morning. His death comes barely two weeks after two other young men were killed in separate stabbing incidents at Gogobole and Midoroni.

The murders of young people at liquor outlets in the Tshilwavhusiku policing area have become a growing concern, not only for the police but also for community members and parents.

According to police spokesperson W/O Vuledzani Dathi, Sunday’s incident occurred at around 01:00. An argument allegedly broke out between Ronewa Musiamo (20) of Tshikhwani and four other boys, leading to a vicious fight at the tavern. Ronewa was stabbed in the chest and back with a sharp object and died at the scene.

“When the police arrived, the victim was lying on the ground. We were alerted by members of the community who witnessed the incident,” Dathi said. The four suspects were arrested immediately after the incident and charged with murder.

The suspects, Khumbudzo Bugana, Nenwali Kaiso, Tshifhiwa Ralutanda, and Thabelo Masevhe, appeared in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 September. Their case was postponed to 25 September for a bail application.

According to the family spokesperson, Mr Tshepiso Musiamo, the family is still trying to come to terms with the tragic incident. He expressed his appreciation to the community members, especially the local pastors, for their support during this time.

Vhamusanda Vho Mbulaheni Ramabulana said the incident raised serious concerns. “As a traditional leader and a member of the community, we are still in shock. The youth are supposed to be writing exams now. It is saddening to see young people dying at liquor outlets. Losing young people is like losing the future of the country," said Ramabulana. He urged young people to avoid frequenting liquor outlets and to focus on their studies instead.

Ronewa will be buried on Saturday, 21 September, at the cemetery in Tshikhwani. The service is scheduled to start at 06:00.
