JR Player's newest album, 10 Year Plan, takes it up a notch

 

Afro-pop and R&B artist JR Player released his third album, 10 Year Plan, on 6 September, reflecting his musical journey since its inception. The artist, whose real name is Unarine Mutheiwana, hails from Tshikhudini village near Thohoyandou. With this album, he proves that he is not only here to stay but is evolving into a powerful force in the industry.

Each track on the 16-song album tells a unique story, showcasing JR Player’s growth as an artist. The album features collaborations with artists such as the King of VenRap, Mizo Phyll, Vendaboy Poet, and Ras Canly, among others. 10 Year Plan narrates the journey of an artist who initially struggled to secure bookings but eventually found success in the industry, thanks to support from God and his fans over the past decade.

This personal project allows JR Player to reconnect with the core elements that first defined him as an artist, reminding fans of the diversity and versatility of his craft. Listeners are taken on a captivating journey through his evolution, demonstrating how far he has come since his humble beginnings.
“The album has been receiving more streams on music platforms such as YouTube and Spotify since its release. I’m still surprised by the response, as it shows this is one of the best albums I’ve ever worked on. I collaborated with several notable producers, including the talented Venda duo Soundslucid and CVK Instrumentals, who brought their signature style to various tracks,” he said.

JR Player also features celebrated Venda rapper Prifix for a standout performance on the song Mavu, adding another layer of flavour to the project. The album seamlessly blends JR Player’s personal experiences with rich sounds from his heritage, marking a powerful return to pop, VenRap, and the unique musical elements that have defined his journey from the start.
