Berea FC lift the MW Munyai soccer trophy

Berea FC have good reason to celebrate. The team was crowned the champions of the MW Munyai Driving School Soccer Tournament at the Gondeni Big Cats Grounds in the Makuya area last Tuesday (24 September).

Berea beat Maholoni Stone Breakers 4-3 in the final to lift the trophy. For their efforts, the Zwigodini-based side was presented with R5,000, gold medals, a floating trophy, and a soccer ball during a ceremony at the grounds after the game.

Berea’s path to the final was not an easy one. They first beat Makuya Junior Aces 9-8 in their semi-final match, which was played at the same venue earlier that day.

The runners-up, Stone Breakers, received R3,000, silver medals, and a soccer ball. Stone Breakers had beaten Maheni Devoted Vultures 4-3 in the semi-final to secure a place in the final.

Teams that were eliminated in the semi-final stage, Maheni Devoted Vultures and Makuya Junior Aces, each received R1,000 and a soccer ball. Pfano Babala of Stone Breakers was the recipient of the top goal scorer award. Webber Unarine, also from Stone Breakers, went home with the best goalkeeper award.

Pfano Babala also won the Player of the Tournament award. The best coach award was presented to Mr. Lucky Tshimange of Berea FC. The individual awards were each presented with trophies. Eight teams from Makuya and the surrounding areas took part in the tournament.
