VFC and Black Leopards in Thohoyandou derby

All roads will lead to the Thohoyandou Stadium next Tuesday, 2 April, where Venda Football Club (VFC) and Black Leopards will test each other’s strength in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match.

A win for VFC against Leopards will enhance their chances to escape the relegation axe at the end of the season. Maunavhathu, as they are commonly known, are currently lying in the fourth position from the bottom of the log with 22 points, three better than the tailenders, Platinum City Rovers.

VFC is in the right frame of mind after they managed to collect the maximum points in their last game against Baroka FC, which was played at the Global Stadium in Lebowakgomo three weeks ago.

Should they fail to beat VFC on Tuesday, Black Leopards will jeopardise their chances to secure a place in the promotional playoffs at the end of the season. Lidoda duvha are lying in the eighth position with 29 points, ten behind the pacesetters, Magesi FC.

Black Leopards will face VFC without their Ivorian striker, Jean Golly. The 24-year-old sharpshooter is still under suspension after their home game against Platinum City Rovers early last month. The likes of Donald Mudau and the team’s Namibian international, Bethuel Muzeu, will be expected to do the job in the absence of Golly.

The log leaders, Magesi FC, will be away to try and beat the stubborn Pretoria Callies at the Soshanguve Giant Stadium outside Pretoria. Baroka FC will host Orbit College FC at the Global Stadium in Lebowakgomo. The other fixtures are Marumo Gallants vs Casric Stars, NB La Masia vs Platinum City Rovers, Hungry Lions vs JDR Stars, and Maritzburg United vs Upington City.
