Swallows win Mutshutshu Ndou cup

Shakadza Ocean Swallows emerged as the champions of the Mutshutshu Ndou Soccer Tournament after defeating Mukovhawabale Peacemakers 2-1 in the final. The annual two-day soccer tournament, which took place at Shakadza village’s sports grounds on 30 and 31 December 2023, was again held in honour of the late legendary soccer star, Mutshutshu Ndou, who passed away in December 2013.

Eight teams from in and around Matavhela, Mukovhawabale, and Shakadza villages participated in the tournament. According to Mr. Vhukhudo Ndou, one of the organisers of the tournament, the winning team, Shakadza Ocean Swallows, went home with R5,000 in cash, a big trophy, new soccer kit, medals, and two soccer balls. The runners-up, Mukovhawabale Peace Makers, received R2,000, new soccer kit, and two soccer balls, while the other six participating teams each received a soccer ball.

The main sponsor of the tournament, Mr Ntendeni Tshimauswu of Dreamtec Projects, based in Gauteng, mentioned that his company had decided to sponsor the tournament as a way of giving back to the Shakadza community as he had been born and raised there.

The captain of Shakadza Ocean Swallows, Aifheli Nndwambi, expressed joy at being crowned the champions of the tournament. He attributed their success to regular practice, hard work, and following the coach's guidance. Nndwambi stated that they would utilise the prize money to develop their team, affiliating with the new league season, and aspiring to become one of the leading teams in the Niani area.
