New MEC of Health promises to improve health-care services

The newly appointed MEC for Health in Limpopo, Ms Dieketseng Mashego, has promised that under her administration, health-care services would improve and patients would be treated with respect.

MEC Mashego was accompanied by the health executive team, which included the executive manager of health in the Vhembe region, Robert Sirwali, and various CEOs of hospitals from around the region, when she visited Hayani Hospital near Sibasa on Thursday, 27 June.

This was MEC Mashego’s first visit to the Vhembe region since her appointment on 13 June. Mashego said her visit aimed to foster strong collaborative relationships and ensure a seamless transition into the new administration.

“Additionally, the visit served as a platform for the MEC to engage with various stakeholders, including hospital staff, local health officials, and community leaders, to align on shared goals and initiatives for enhancing health-care delivery in the region. We want to forge a positive working environment with you as workers in the department. We are all going to play our different roles in improving the health-care system for the better,” said MEC Mashego.

Mashego emphasised that the people of Vhembe and the rest of the province deserved quality services and would be looking to their leaders for answers and solutions. “They are looking to us as custodians of their health needs, and we dare not fail them,” she said, stressing that issues such as interruptions in the supply of medication and staff shortages needed to be addressed. “We must ensure that our patients who visit our hospitals, clinics, and health-care centres leave satisfied,” she added.
