Police ask for assistance in tracking down rhino poachers

The Limpopo police have urged members of the public to come forward with information that can lead to the arrest of the poachers responsible for the slaughter and dehorning of two rhinos on a game farm outside Louis Trichardt.

According to provincial police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba, the incident took place between 17:00 on Friday, 28 June, and 07:00 on Saturday, 29 June, when employees of the game reserve reported for duty and, while patrolling, found the two rhinos.

“It appears that after shooting the rhinos, the suspects removed the horns and fled the scene on foot by jumping over the fence. The police were notified about the incident and opened a case of rhino poaching for further investigation,” said Ledwaba.

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects involved should contact the investigating officer, Const Madoro Ndivhaleni at Tel 082 319 9545 or the Crime Stop number 08600 10111. They can also visit the nearest police station or use the MySAPSApp.
