Berea Madzinga has a new Kwaito hit

“Kwaito is a type of music for everyone, and we must embrace it like all other genres,” said Berea Madzonga, who has just released a new single, Hayani.

The highly popular artist said that, although his music was well-received, a perception still persisted that Kwaito music was only for a select group of people. “Most ordinary community members feel that they should not associate themselves with this type of music because they think it is a genre for the younger generation and those who are well-off,” he said.

Those who understand his music better believe that Madzonga has gone from strength to strength. The resident of Zwigodini Village in the Niani area is well respected for the quality of his music.

Madzonga said that his recent success could be attributed to his insistence on selecting the best musicians and teams to work with and ensuring that there was no element of vulgar language in his lyrics. “I am eternally grateful to the artists who have contributed to my music career,” he said.

For Madzonga, who still carries a pen and paper with him to jot down his songs easily, music has become the essence of his life. “Music means everything to me,” he said. “To me, it is do or die. It's like living without water in a desert.”

He added that music constantly reminds him to strive to deliver sweet melodies to the ears of those who love his work. His passion for music is what keeps Madzonga going, and he is gaining great popularity among Kwaito lovers because of his unique style, characterised by heavy bass sounds.
