Maedza's rhumba album celebrates love

The energetic musician Tarivinga Maedza has just finished recording a rhumba album titled Hatikanganwe, filled with love songs.

According to Maedza, the album is performing well in the market, despite not being actively promoted. He adds that the songs are very popular in the local tshingondo (rhumba) music fraternity and already receive significant airplay on local, regional, and national radio stations.

The new album contains eight thrilling tracks, with songs that promise to be instant hits with his fans, including Manzwi, Never Give Up, and Rudo Gara.

“One thing I like about tshingondo music is that it never goes out of fashion,” said Maedza. He added that the new album was much more mature than his previous one. “I’m very thankful to my fans who continue to buy my albums. I also appreciate the various radio stations that regularly play my music,” he said.

Though enjoying the fruits of his success, Maedza said he would not rest until tshingondo music received the recognition it deserved. “Some people still perceive this type of music as low-class, but I will fight until people realise that it is, in fact, the mother of all music genres,” he said.

All tracks on the album convey different messages aimed at both the young and the old. "I have experimented with all types of music over the years and have played with the best in the country. With the experience I have, I believe I can take rhumba music to another level. Listen to this album, and you’ll discover that it has been meticulously crafted to produce the best product.”

He expressed disappointment that rhumba music was not occupying its rightful place on the South African music scene. He warned that if local artists did not come together and unite, even the government would not take them seriously.
