Oscar Stars hammer Runga Birds

Makhitha Oscar Stars hammered their rivals, Makhitha Runga Birds, 5-2 in a Safa Vhembe MMK Administrators league match at the Makhitha grounds on Sunday.

The local derby was watched by an estimated 2 000 spectators from around the Vhembe area.

The head coach of Makhitha Oscar Stars, Mr Karel Ratombo, said that his players wanted to win the league. “We have a good team. My substitutions late in the game had turned the match on its head. I am proud of the boys. They really worked hard as a team throughout the match,” said Ratombo.

Frans Lithole, captain of Runga Birds, said that the team must work hard on rectifying their mistakes as they prepared for their next match. “We lost last week and now we are really trying to work hard, so that we are ready for our next match,” added Lithole.

He added that they must accept the defeat, because it formed part of football.

The goal scorers for Oscar Stars were Mashudu Nengovhela (2), Faith Ratombo, Clinton Sinyolo and Muladelo Ndou, and for Runga Birds Mbulaheni Makhokha and Matodzi Maedza scored.
