Brothers and Discovery in Nemakonde final

The Tshifudi Stadium will be the best place for soccer lovers to be tomorrow. That is where the much-awaited final of the annual Boy Nemakonde KO competition will be staged.

Begwa United Brothers and New Discovery FC will meet in the final. New Discovery’s way to the final went via Tshaulu Hungry Lions, whom they narrowly beat 1-0 in their quarterfinal match. Their semifinal match was against Munangwe United Brothers, whom they unexpectedly beat 3-2 two weeks ago.

Begwa United Brothers’ opening match was against Lukalo Hotspurs, whom they brutally walloped 4-1. They crushed Buluni Happy Boys 4-0 in their semifinal match to secure a place in the final.

The teams booted out of the competition in the semifinal stage, Buluni Happy Boys and Munangwe United Brothers, will battle it out in their losers’ final match, which is scheduled to kick off at 10:30.

The rehearsal match between Begwa Ladies and Duvhuledza Ladies will start shortly after the final whistle of the losers’ final game.

The finalists’ head coaches, Mr Steve Munyamela (New Discovery) and Mr Kennedy Munyai (Begwa), both indicated that they were more than ready to lift the Nemakonde trophy for the first time.

This year’s champions will take home R13 000, 11 pairs of soccer boots, six soccer balls, a soccer kit and a floating trophy. Eighteen players of the winning team will each be given a cash prize of R500, while the team’s coach will receive a R1 000 award.

The runners-up will take home R1500, 11 pairs of soccer boots, a soccer kit and six soccer balls. The third-placed side will receive R1 500 and six soccer balls, while the team that will finish in the fourth place will be presented with six soccer balls. Teams that booted out in the quarterfinal stage will each receive a consolation prize of two soccer balls.

The individual awards will be presented to the player of the tournament (R1 500), the best goalkeeper (R1 500) and the top goal scorer (R1 000).

The prize-giving ceremony is expected to be held at the stadium shortly after the final whistle.
