Tigers beat Masters in Victra final

Gooldville Young Tigers fought hard for their 6-5 victory over Tshitereke Young Masters in their final match of the Victra Easter Tournament at the Vhufuli Gooldville grounds last Thursday.

Young Tigers were out of touch in the first 20 minutes of the game, but their fighting spirit grew up with time. Masters squandered several clear scoring chances within a short space of time.

Elekanyani Nkhumeleni went loose from the far-right corner and unleashed a volley from close range. The ball went far wide. That did not stop Masters from continuing to knock on the Tigers’ door. Masters were awarded a free kick in the 35-meter area after Jackie Mogale was illegally tackled.

Lucky Ndou, who received the Man of The Tournament award after the game, tried his luck with a volley. The keeper of Young Tigers, Thendo Ndou, watched helplessly as the ball went beyond his reach.

Avhafarei Madima of Young Tigers was the only player whose name went into the referee’s book. He obstructed Robert Nendauni in the 29th minute.

Young Tigers found the equalizer five minutes before the half-time whistle. Their veteran striker, Tshifhiwa “One-one” Nedzamba, headed home after a scramble within the box. Young Masters strengthened their midfield by introducing Mashudu Nekhunguni at the expense of Wisper Nemakhubye three minutes into the last half.

Both sides created and wasted numerous scoring chances in the last stanza. The score was still 1-1 at the end of the regulation time and ultimately the winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out.

Young Tigers converted all five their chances through Mukhethwa Thanyani, Muvhuso Ramudingani, Elekanyani Nkhumeleni, Thilivhali Thiba and Tshifhiwa Nedzamba while Masters scored four from the white spot.
