New traditional leader installed at Phiphidi

A new traditional leader, Vhamusanda Vho Takalani Dion Tshivhase, was installed in Phiphidi village during a special ceremony held on 6 April.

The community had gone almost four years without a traditional leader, making the installation of the new Vhamusanda a joyous occasion. The new traditional leader was given the royal name “Mphathiseni Dumbutshena” as he assumed his leadership role.

During the installation ceremony, Vhomakhadzi Ndihone Tshimangadzo Tshivhase remarked that the darkness of the storm had finally passed, referring to the period the community had spent without a leader. She urged other leaders and the new Vhamusanda’s royal council to cooperate with their new leader. “The leadership role is not as easy as it appears. You work tirelessly for your people,” she said.

She also emphasised that the new Vhamusanda should collaborate with other structures for the benefit of the Phiphidi community. “This job is not fascinating. The tree we have planted here today is a community tree; it should grow and stay strong for the benefit of the community,” she said.

Vhomakhadzi Tshivhase advised residents to respect the position of traditional leaders to avoid bringing instability. She stressed the importance of avoiding misunderstandings and conflicts and encouraged the new leader to work hard, while warning him against the dangers of power abuse.

In response, Vhamusanda Tshivhase addressed the gathering, stating that his installation marked a new beginning for the people of Phiphidi. “We need development here, and we are happy that the basics like water and electricity are already present. I will follow in my father's footsteps and not let my people down,” he said.
