Please hurry up, we need to bury him

The distraught Mudau family of Tsianda-Govhathondoni outside Thohoyandou are appealing to the police to speed up the forensic investigation that will allow them to bury a family member whose remains have not yet buried four months after the tragic accident that claimed his life.

Mr Trevor Mudau (34) was alone in his car, driving from Gauteng, when he was involved in a vehicle accident on the N1 in Mokopane on 4 March. He was burnt beyond recognition. The family is now appealing for the police to complete their forensic investigation, so that they can bury his remains.

The father of the deceased, Mr Thomas Mudau, said life was hard for the family after they had been waiting for four months, without success, for the police’s forensic investigation to be concluded. “My health is deteriorating each day when I think about the matter of my child. The forensic police came to me three times to take blood samples, but since then, they have not come back to me. We want to forge ahead with life, but without the burial of the remains of my child, life is a nightmare,” said Mudau.

Family spokesperson Mr Khuliso Masakona said three people had died in the accident, and Trevor was the only who had burnt beyond recognition.

Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said they would investigate what had caused the delays in the forensic investigation. He added that some sections in the South African Police Services were not working properly because of the spread of Covid-19.

The deceased left his wife, Azwianewi Mudau, and two children, Tshifhiwa and Ondwela.
