Nthambeleni to be inaugurated as Univen vice-chancellor

Dr Ndanduleni Bernard Nthambeleni will be inaugurated as the fifth vice-chancellor and principal of the University of Venda (Univen) at the University auditorium on Friday (today).

He will be formally inaugurated by the chairperson of  the university council, Mr Serobi Maja.

The event will be attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Ms Naledi Pandor, the CEO of the National Research Foundation, Dr Molapo Qhobela, and the vice-chancellor and principal of the University of Johannesburg, Prof Tshilidzi Marwala.

Nthambeleni was appointed as the vice-chancellor and principal in January this year.

Univen's director of communications and marketing, Mr Takalani Dzaga, said that the vice-chancellor’s inauguration was a major occasion in the life of a university. “It is time when the university is able to look back with pride on our accomplishments and confirm our confidence in a future of great promise," Dzaga added.

"Unlike the presidents’ inauguration, which typically occurs on the first day in office, universities often wait until the vice-chancellor has been in office for several months before holding their ceremonies, giving him or her time to get a feel for the university and its many constituencies and to think more about the direction to take the university," Dzaga said.
