Case against Ramaite provisionally withdrawn

Charges against the Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr Silas Mashau Ramaite (53), have been withdrawn provisionally. He appeared in the Louis Trichardt District Court on September 2.

Ramaite was arrested in June this year after he was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and caused an accident while driving his luxury Jaguar near Levubu.

At the time, Ramaite was charged with single counts of reckless and negligent driving and driving under the influence and released on R1 000 bail. His case was initially postponed to allow time for his blood test to come back from the police’s laboratory.

It was because of this very same blood test that the case was withdrawn, as police are still waiting for the results. If the results are positive, the case against Ramaite will continue.
