Love is not measured in length

“People never stop staring at us when we walk around together. They must stop worrying about us and just accept that we are in love. Yes, she is taller than me, but that has nothing to do with our union because loves rests in the heart, not in physical appearance. We are a happy couple, and we plan to have a big wedding in the near future.”

These are the words of local gospel music star Shakes Mbedzi (31) of Khubvi village outside Thohoyandou. This comes after he confessed that a lot of people questioned his love affair with his sweetheart, Lutendo Munyai Mbedzi (31). The couple have been staying together for the past three years and are committed to being together for the rest of their lives.

Mbedzi said some people went as far as approaching his wife’s family to influence them to withdraw their daughter from their marriage. “Unfortunately, they have failed because our families are very supportive of our matrimonial togetherness. Ours is the match made in heaven and there is no one who can separate us until the end of the world.”

The gospel star explained that he had met his other half six years ago and they had started off as friends. “Our feelings for each other developed further, and we ended up falling in love. We have been staying together for the past three years, and this is the most enjoyable time of my life. This lady is full of love, and she treats me like a king. We will be organizing a big wedding when the lockdown restrictions are eased, so that we can accommodate a large number of people. The wedding will be a public platform for everyone to see that our love is sealed and we are inseparable.”

On the other hand, Lutendo, who runs a small business, says Shakes is the most wonderful gift she has ever received from God. “He means everything to me, and I can’t imagine how life could be without him. He is a very handsome and supportive man with a soft heart, and he knows how to treat a woman. Being in love with him makes me the happiest woman on earth every day because I now know what true love is.”
