When he launched his latest single, “Kha Dzhene Mu Africa” in April this year, the king of tshingondo (rhumba) music, Mu Africa Marko, promised his fans a full album. True to his word, Mu Africa has arrived with all guns blazing and released “Bvumo Volume 10” last week.
This is the tenth offering from Mu Africa, whose real name is Marko Clement Simbine. As usual, he worked with the family band, The More Fire Big Machine Band. The songs were composed by Mu Africa himself and produced by Noleen Simbine. The album was recorded at Mphagani Recording Studio at Muledane and was mastered by studio owner Mr Mbangi Mphaga.
“Mathada” and “Mudzimu” (Bvumo) are some of the more popular songs, judged by the reaction of fans since its release last week. His skilful playing of the bass guitar still captures the imagination of the listeners, taking them on a musical journey of sound.
“I am back with a bang and here to claim my rightful position in the rhumba music arena. When I released a single in April, prophets of doom had already crafted my obituary, saying I was musically bankrupt and heading to the grave. I promised my fans I would be back full force, and here I am today, delivering on my promise,” he said.
Mu Africa said he had never been short of material for a full album but had released a single to test the waters. “As I speak now, I have many ready tracks that I can record an album even tomorrow. I live, eat, and dream music,” he said.
The popular artist is also a traditional healer. Asked how he managed between healing people and music, Mu Africa was quick to point out that the gods are in control of the situation.
