Teams gear up for Champ of Champs games

 

The 10 teams from the Safa Vhembe Hollywoodbets League that qualified for the Champ of Champs games will commence their journey this Saturday. The teams have been divided into two groups. Group A comprises Tshikhwani Stone Breakers, Thohoyandou Manchester Flying Stars, FC Basel, Maelula United Brothers, and Musasenda Big Five. Teams in Group B are Tshikovha Arsenal, Univen FC, Berea FC, Mashamba Soccer Academy, and Igwe FC.

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format, with each team playing four matches. Group A teams will play their first two matches at Tshifulanani Stadium. The first match will feature Tshikhwani Stone Breakers against Thohoyandou Manchester Flying Stars at 07:30. FC Basel and Maelula United Brothers will follow at 09:30, while Musasenda Big Five and Tshikhwani Stone Breakers will test each other's strength from 11:30.

Musasenda Big Five are one of the hot favourites to lift the trophy as their performance in the elimination-round game against Matsika Shooting Stars was superb. Thohoyandou Manchester Flying Stars will take on FC Basel, starting at 13:30, and the day’s programme will conclude with the match between Maelula United Brothers and Musasenda Big Five. Maelula United Brothers had risen to the occasion and beaten Rabali Pull Together 7-6 in their elimination round. Pull Together were leading 3-0 when the teams adjourned for the half-time break.

Group B teams will play their matches at Makhuvha Stadium. The fixtures are: Tshikovha Arsenal vs Univen FC, Berea FC vs Mashamba Soccer Academy, Igwe FC vs Tshikovha Arsenal, Univen FC vs Berea FC, and Mashamba Soccer Academy vs Igwe FC.

The top two teams from each group will secure places in the semi-final round. The semi-final and final will be played at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday, 6 July. The overall winner will represent the region in the provincial promotional playoffs.
