Tshiozwi Village win 2024 Easter Challenge

Much to the excitement of local soccer lovers, the team from Tshiozwi Village won the Hollywoodbets Easter Soccer Challenge 2024 two weeks ago. Tshiozwi scored a convincing 4-1 victory over Midoroni Village in the final match that was played at the Gogobole Bucs Grounds. This year marked the 15th anniversary of the popular Easter soccer tournament, organized by Mamu Community Development and was also the first time in eight years that Tshiozwi succeeded in winning the cup.

The winning team’s manager, Mr. Patrick Nageli, said that the team had started preparing for the tournament in December last year. “We kept telling ourselves that we would like to win it this year,” he said. Tshiozwi Village received a R25,000 cash prize, as well as a floating trophy, a soccer kit, and gold medals. The runners-up, Midoroni Village, received R12,000 and a soccer kit. The third- and fourth-placed teams, Magau and Makhitha, each received R5,000. All the teams that ended in the top 8 positions but did not proceed to the semi-finals received R2,500, while the teams that fell in the first round received R500 each.

Mamu Community Development’s general secretary, Mr. Jafter Mamugudubi, said that they were very satisfied with the way the tournament had played out. “There were no major challenges, but we have invited all the team managers to attend a post-tournament meeting to discuss their experiences and suggest ways in which we can improve,” he said. Mamugudubi thanked the sponsors of the tournament, which include Premjee & Sons Cash & Carry, Hollywoodbets, Hollywood Foundation, KFC, Collins Sebola Group, Hyundai Louis Trichardt, Mikasa, Talisman Hire, Leach Printers, FNB, Coca Cola, Powerade, Phadziri & Sons Bus Service, Melton Lufuno Security and Projects, and Tradepost 2076 CC Afrox.
