Berea and Bale in Zimunga semis

Sports lovers will stream to the Zwigodini soccer fields in the Niani area tomorrow afternoon for the much-awaited semifinal matches of the Zimunga Soccer Tournament.

The teams that have managed to reach the semifinal stage of the prestigious tournament are: Berea FC, Makuya Junior Aces, Bale Roller Mills and Madimbo Pull Together.

Makuya Junior Aces and Madimbo Pull Together will meet at 12:00. Junior Aces beat Tshilamusi Super Eagles 2-0 to secure a place in the semifinal stage, while Madimbo Pull Together’s way to the semifinal went via Ficus FC, whom they beat 3-0. The favourites, Berea FC, will lock horns with Bale Roller Mills at 15:00.

Berea proved all the critics wrong when they rose to the occasion and beat Mikhado FC 5-4 in their quarterfinal match three weeks ago.

On the other hand, Roller Mills beat Mulodi Freedom Birds 4-3 to book a place in the semis.

It remains to be seen whether Bale’s defenders will have the strength to stop the Berea goal poachers, Dakalo Ratshitanga, Elias Ranyasa and Juliet Ngubane.

The tournament was officially launched at a glittering ceremony held at the Big Tree Lodge last month. The champions will receive a cash prize amounting to R30 000, a floating trophy, new soccer kit and gold medals. The runners-up will take home R15 000, soccer kit and silver medals.

The team that will finish in the third spot will receive R10 000, bronze medals and soccer kit. The team that will finish in the fourth position will be presented with a R5 000 cash prize and soccer kit.

The teams ending from the fifth to the 32^nd position will receive cash prizes ranging from R1 800 down to R400. The final will be staged at the same venue on a date still to be announced.
