United Brothers lift the Boy Nemakonde trophy

Last Saturday was a memorable day for the teams that took part in this year’s edition of the Boy Nemakonde Soccer Tournament. They received their prizes during a glittering ceremony at the Begwa Brickyard.

During the ceremony the champions, Munangwe United Brothers, received a cash prize of R10 000, soccer kit, gold medals, a floating trophy, 11 pairs of soccer boots and six soccer balls.

The runners-up, Tshaulu Hungry Lions, received R1 500, soccer kit and six soccer balls during the ceremony. The third-placed side, Madandila Happy Boys, were given a cash prize of R1 500 and six soccer balls, while the team that was booted out of the tournament in the losers’ final game, Lukalo Hotspurs, took home six soccer balls.

Teams booted out of the tournament in the quarterfinal stage were each given a consolation prize of two soccer balls.

Hataluli Mathavha of Munangwe United Brothers received the best keeper’s award during the ceremony. The tournament’s best player award went to Rudzani Seaneo of Tshaulu Hungry Lions. Thinawanga Munyai of Madandila Happy Boys took home the top goal scorer’s award. They were each presented with trophies and R1 000. Dimani Young Masters and Madandila Happy Boys were each given R1 000 during the ceremony because they shared the fair play award.

During the ceremony the sponsor, Mr Boy Nemakonde, said that he was impressed by the way the tournament was run. He promised to continue sponsoring the tournament in coming years, saying the sponsorship amount would increase with time.

A local traditional leader, Vhamusanda Vho-Madzhadzhi Bohwana, praised the sponsor, saying only a very few businesspeople ploughed back some of their business profit into the communities where their businesses operated.
