Brig Sivhula honoured for long-standing service

With an unbroken career spanning 40 years, Brig Julia Naledzani Sivhula, Capricorn SAPS’s deputy district commissioner in Polokwane, has been hailed as one of the longest-serving police members in Limpopo. To celebrate this remarkable woman in blue, she was honoured with a certificate for long-standing service. The ceremony was held in Polokwane on Friday, 12 January, and served as a send-off for Sivhula, who will be retiring this year.

Limpopo Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe said that for the Limpopo SAPS to celebrate Sivhula’s career, in which she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public safety, was only befitting. “Brig Sivhula has been an integral part of the law-enforcement community, embodying the values of integrity, professionalism, and dedication. Throughout her tenure, she played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens of this province. We take this opportunity to honour her, with the hope that it will inspire others that hard work pays,” Hadebe said.

The illustrious journey of Sivhula, who hails from Tshirolwe in Nzhelele, started back in 1984 when she joined the police service at the Sibasa Training College. Upon completion, she was deployed at the Dzanani Police Station. Through the years, she moved up the ranks, filling leadership positions as an instructor and station commissioner at different police stations, such as Bandelierkop, Soekmekaar, Makhado, and Polokwane, among others. The seasoned police officer continued to lead at Seshego, and later Mankweng, as cluster commander before she was appointed as deputy district commissioner in Capricorn.

Besides being a dedicated policewoman, Sivhula is a community builder, having initiated vegetable gardens wherever she worked. The vegetables are distributed among the destitute in the community. She also plays an instrumental role in building houses for the poor. “One of my goals this year is to ensure that the project of building a house for a family from Ga-Komape in Moletjie is complete. That will be my send-off gift to the communities I will continue to serve, even after my retirement,” she said.
