All women are worth celebrating

Fhulufhelo Lindy Mudau (21), known on social-media platforms as MissLyrical Fhulufhelo la Venda because of her exceptional poetic talents and involvement in social circles, is quite vocal about the upliftment and empowerment of women in society.

A second-year B Com student at the University of Venda, she believes that society should continue to pay homage to women as a way of acknowledging the important roles they play in community service and community building.

“We have strong mothers, sisters and daughters who, in various ways, are the pillars in our different communities. I feel that we need to respect and celebrate them for who and what they are,” she said. “We do not have to celebrate only those who are in the legislatures or parliament, but also those who look after little children in crèches, or those who sell veggies by the roadside.”

She added that, considering the different important values women contributed to societal welfare every day, not one was more or less important. “We are all equal in our different ways. We all matter,” she said.

Fhulufhelo, who resides at Muswodi Tshisimani village in the Niani area, believes that anyone who is determined enough can achieve their goals, no matter their circumstances. “I write and recite my own poems, and I do that on many social levels,” she said. “I don’t take on to society’s pressures on what people might expect of and from me. Above all else I am ‘me’, not some other person.”

She describes herself as a full-time student with the desire to succeed through both education and the art of writing and reciting her poems. She is a firm believer that having an education unlocks the doors to success.

Fhulufhelo is the end-product of Muswodi Primary and Ratshibvumo Secondary School. “I started writing poems in 2013, and I’m very passionate about this craft,” she said. “The nib of my pen emits burning words. My pen is my greatest weapon to overcome challenges and problems. I am a warrior! I am a woman.”

Fhulufhelo is an avid reader and enjoys reading stories online. “I enjoy reading and spending time with loved ones, but what keeps me going is the smile I always wear upon my face,” she said. “I have no regrets in saying that I believe in myself more than I believe in other people. Prayer and trust in God give me wings to fly higher and reach my dreams.”

MissLyrical Fhulufhelo la Venda is available on Facebook and can be reached on Tel 064 760 1662 or 063 178 6575. She can be emailed at [email protected]. “I am looking forward to continuing to heal people’s hearts with my words,” she said.
