Music lovers will enjoy and celebrate the diversity of South African music via a wide range of singers and musicians during the Mapungubwe Arts Festival.
The festival takes place on 15 December at the Polokwane Cricket Club, and some of the featuring artists make the festival a must-attend event for those who love local musicians and what they have to offer.
While the line-up list is quite long and fascinating, it comprises, among others, some local talents such as Colbert Mukwevho, Makhadzi, Benny Mayengani and Candy Tsamandebele.
Mukwevho needs no introduction. He is the godfather of Tshivenda reggae music whose music has stood the test of the time. He is among the few musicians who insist on performing with a live band all the time.
Benny Mayengani, who recently hosted a mega show, Benny Mayengani Fill-up Giyani Stadium Festival, is also in the line-up for this great festival. He became famous with albums such as Tiba Ben, Vitanani Firebrigade and Ntombi ya ku xonga. He went on to win many awards and was named Benny Mayengani the president, after his studio album.
King Monada is a highly talented and experimental artist who rocked the music industry last year and has just made a comeback with Malwedhe (Idibala). He is one artist who keeps people on the dance floor even long after the song has stopped playing.
Candy, of Tsamandebele fame, will mesmerise music lovers with her XiTsonga-, Khelobedu- and Sepedi-nuanced music. Makhadzi is ready for the big festival in the province and she will sing new songs along with her best songs from last year, including Tshanda Iya.
The long list of artists who will perform include, among others, Lady Zamar, Mafikizolo, Mr Bow, Jonas Gwangwa, Thebe, Pleasure, Berita, Sho Madjozi, Selaelo Selota, Vusi Nova, Ntsikwana, Joe Shirimani, Colbert Mukwevho., Dj Sumbody, Zonke, Steve Kekana, Thabiso Maleka, King Monanda, Majoy, Condry Ziqubu, and Makhadzi.

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper. He is a prolific writer who published his first book, titled A Traumatic Revenge in 2011. It focusses on life on the street and how to survive amidst poverty. His second book titled The Violent Gestures of Life was published in 2014.

The revival of Tshivenda traditional music is not just the pipe dream of some idealists. Judging by the turnout during a meeting held in Thohoyandou this past weekend, this form of music is about to undergo a major revival.
Tshivenda traditional-music lovers are in for a treat with a collaboration between Tshivenda traditional music legend and veteran Solomon Mathase and popular poet and guitarist Dzomo la Venda. The two were spotted on Saturday, 20 April, at a function in Thohoyandou where they showcased their talents during a live performance.
During a Sunday sermon, Bishop Johannes Muofhe of the World Mission Church’s Fondwe branch prophesied that a musician, someone other than a member of the worship team, would emerge from the church.
With a successful roots-reggae album titled “Shandukani” to his name, Fhatuwani Richard Mashele is quickly becoming a household name in South African music. Better known as Jah Saint in music circles, Mashele believes that success does not come overnight and that one must work hard to earn it.
