King Toni urges leaders to work together

Khosikhulu Vho-Thovhele Toni Mphephu Ramabulana warned that unnecessary ructions between traditional leaders and councillors prevented effective service delivery.

He was speaking during the Vhembe district state-of-the-district address last Wednesday in Tshisaulu outside Thohoyandou. He said traditional leaders and councillors should work together with the aim of accelerating service delivery in the communities.

According to Vho-Thovhele Mphephu Ramabulana, rumours of nepotism often surfaced when there were government and municipal projects in the community and there was conflict between a councillor and a traditional leader. He said when political and traditional leaders co-operated and worked together, service delivery was accelerated and communities developed.

“We often hear about people complaining and about disagreements between the traditional leaders and ward councillors, instead of hearing about the progress of the project,” he said. He added that traditional leaders and councillors should liaise from time to time, as this would help communities to address the challenges of service delivery.
