Black Leopards out of the title race

Black Leopards are out of the league title race after they lost their match against United FC at the Giyani Stadium.

The Thohoyandou outfit are in the second spot with 44 points, 10 behind the log leaders, Chippa United. Even if they manage to win their remaining three league matches, Leopards will be a point behind Chippa United.

Leopards’ head coach, Mr Kostadin Papic, is still optimistic that his side will gain promotion to the Absa Premiership Division, although they had failed to gain automatic promotion. He said that their focus and last hope were on the promotional playoffs. The teams that will finish in the second and third position on the log, together with the second-last team in the Absa Premiership, will play in the platinum play-offs at the end of the season.

The best team in the platinum play-offs will also be promoted to the elite league. Black Leopards will play their three remaining matches away from home. Their remaining fixtures are against Milano United, FC Cape Town and Jomo Cosmos.

Chippa United will also play their remaining matches away from home. The Cape Town side will play against Witbank Spurs, Santos, United FC and Milano United. Other teams which still stand a chance of taking part in the promotional play-offs are Baroka FC and Milano United. The last league matches will be played on Sunday, May 11.
