Begwa teach Young Masters a lesson

Not only did Begwa FC proceed to the semifinal stage of the Boy Nemakonde Soccer Challenge, but they also registered a historic score by beating Dimani Young Masters 8-0 in their quarterfinal at the Tshifudi Stadium on Saturday.

Begwa meant business from the onset, with their strikers giving the Masters’ defenders no time to breathe. It took them only four minutes to stamp their authority on the game. Their lethal striker, Mueletshedzi Mudau, made no mistake after receiving a neat pass from Thuso Nevhufumba.

Young Masters lost shape in the middle of the park shortly after the goal. Begwa capitalized and scored two more goals in quick succession. Khethekanyo Nemudzivhadi was on target with a volley. Begwa replaced their veteran midfielder, Beron Musimeki, with Goodwill Baloyi soon after their second goal.

Mudau completed his brace when he unleashed a ground cutter from the right corner. Begwa were leading 4-0 when the referee, Ms Lufuno Nemagovhani, blew the half-time whistle. This after their captain, Norman Mbedzi, found the net with a header three minutes before half time.

Begwa continued to display entertaining football in the second half. Norman Mbedzi was in the thick of things again in the 56th minute. He beat the keeper with a loose ball after a scramble within the box. Khethekanyo Nemudzivhadi scored the sixth after a rebound.

Although victory was already certain, Begwa did not stop fighting. Goodwill Baloyi made his presence felt when he blasted in a rocket from close range in the 67th minute. Mbedzi completed his hat-trick in the 75th minute. Begwa were awarded a penalty in the 84th minute after Thuso Nevhufumba was brought down within the box. Khethekanyo Nemudzivhadi shot straight to the keeper.

Begwa beat Lukalo Hotspurs 5-4 in the semifinal at the same venue the following day to secure a place in the final.
