King Toni’s fun walk to continue on Friday

Despite the court setback that halted the coronation ceremony that was to have taken place tomorrow (Friday), the King Toni Mphephu Fun walk will go ahead.

The annual fun walk is the initiative of the king, in partnership with Phalaphala FM and Nandoni Royal Gradens and has become one of the biggest festivals in the area. It is going to start at the Christian Miracle Church at Tshisele and will end at the Nandoni Royal Gardens.

The fun-walk is a build-up to the Phalaphala FM Royal Gardens Heritage Festival, one of Limpopo's cultural melting-pot festivals. The event will also include a bare-knuckle fistfighting tournament at the Royal Gardens.

The coordinator of the fun walk, Mr Calvin Sikhau, said the event had grown by leaps and bounds. “Last year we hosted even a king from the DRC, King Fabrice Zombi, and the Amapondo king, Zanozuko Sigcau, who joined the Vhavenda king and walked the full 12 km. We are once again expecting high-profile guests from Sekhukhune and Modjadji and also from other parts of the country."

He added that the event was growing each year "and this makes me very happy that people are taking issues of health seriously."

The local musangwe boss, Mr Patrick Ramarada, said thousands of people wanted to witness good fights. "The fights were started by our ancestors and our event is supported by the local traditional leaders," Ramarada said.

A local fighter, Thuso “Ngwazi” Ramukakati, said he was more than ready. “Anybody who challenges me should be ready for the consequences. I will face any challenge,” he said.

Even ladies are expected to be in the ring at the musangwe competition.
