Awards for Tshilongoni’s top achievers

Phophi Budeli and Mbavhalelo Nengovhela received the first Mabannda annual award last Friday at the Tshilogoni Secondary School in Dopeni.

The two learners were nominated as the top two for the year 2015 at Tshilogoni Secondary after they passed with flying colours.

Budeli won first prize, amounting to R1 500 and a trophy, whereas Nengovhela received R1 000 and a floating trophy.

Nengovhela ascribed her success to the fact that she had spent most of her time studying. “My father does not go to sleep until I have finish studying every day. He and my mother motivate me a lot,” she said.

The Mabannda award was initiated to honour the first and former principal of the School, Mr Freddy Mabannda, as well as to make learners aware of their potential, regardless of their disadvantaged background.

In his address Mr Mabannda mentioned that he wished to see more of the successful products of Tshilogoni school getting involved in the funding of the award. “We have this award to encourage learners to study harder, so that they can be successful and uplift those who are coming after them,” he said.

The founders of the Mabannda award, Professor Tshimangadzo Nedambale and Doctor Moses Ralinala, are currently the only funders of the award.

Second-prize winner Nengovhela Mbavhalelo displays her trophy.
