Dagga case postponed

A 35-year-old suspect, Daniel Sithole, who was arrested last Tuesday for allegedly selling dagga, was released on R1 500 bail the following day at the Waterval Magistrate’s Court.

Sithole, from N’waxinyamani village, was allegedly selling dagga from his home. The Waterval police received a tip-off about his drug business. Upon arriving at his home, the police were astonished to discover a dagga garden.

The dagga, with an estimated street value of R5 000, was confiscated at his home. Sithole will have to be back in court on the 15th of January next year.

The incident had prompted police to warn the public about the operation of illegal businesses. The Waterval police spokesperson, W/O Kedibone Mabatha, said illegal businesses would not be tolerated.

He insisted that the use of dagga goes hand in hand with other criminal activities. “People should focus on positive businesses that bring light to the community rather than these negative businesses which usually influence delinquency and criminal activities,” he said.
