The current Miss University of Venda, Unarine Netshia, experienced another triumph as she was crowned Miss Teen Makhado Royal at the Kone Village Lodge in Louis Trichardt on Friday, 15 December. This title followed closely after her Miss University of Venda win at the Univen Auditorium on Thursday, 21 November.

Hailing from Balethavha in Tshixwadza village, the 19-year-old beauty queen expressed her excitement in an interview with Limpopo Mirror. Unarine stated, “Being a winner feels great and satisfying. I never thought I would accumulate so much in one year. This is a true definition of persistence, dedication, and hard work. Next, I will be entering for the Miss Teen Universe South Africa pageant.”

Unarine embarked on her modelling journey in 2018 and has already earned four titles, including Miss Kliptown Youth Programme 2019, Miss Vhembe Supranatural 2022 second runner-up, Miss University of Venda 2023, and now Miss Teen Makhado Royal 2023.

Currently a second-year student at the University of Venda while pursuing her BA in international relations, she describes herself as a strong advocate for poverty and community empowerment. “I grew up with this advocacy because I know how it feels to grow up in a society where opportunities are very few. I know how it feels like to grow up in a community where there are no necessary resources and tools to enable a young person to move from poverty to opportunity with only a mindset. I started an organisation called Elevating Child’s Hunger, and this is my driving force,” she explained.
