There are stage names that strike one the first time and are not easily forgotten. First it was Killa G, and now there is Racha Kill on the Venrap block.
Racha Kill, also known as Mr 5455, is the stage name of Maanda Nevhutalu, who has reportedly taken the Venrap industry by storm. He started rapping around 2012 in the streets of the Vhembe district.
When the prince of hip hop and role model to many youths, Mizo Phyll, heard him, he knew that the young voice had it to join the music industry. He encouraged Maanda to go to the studio. “I came out with a single mixtape, Tshifhinga Tshanga,” said 21-year-old Racha Kill, who hails from Ngovhela village.
It came as a surprise when everyone in the hood was playing his songs and actually loved them. If the local social media are to be used as a yardstick, Racha Kill is considered the best punch killler in the Venrap game. “My music is a flavour of traditional hip hop with an inspiration of international feel,” he said. “I later joined FFLR Studios where I recorded mixtapes featuring fellow artists such as Bhamba, Mizo Phyll, Gidi boy, and Wukid, as well as other Venrap cats.”
He first ascended the stage in 2013 as a nervous and shy MC. To his surprise, everyone knew his songs by heart and they all sang along with him. “It showed me that I was making a difference out there musically,” he said. “My sound has penetrated the genre. Music is a healing process and it always has its way of touching hearts.”
He finally secured a contract with Rita Dee entertainment. “As an artist and a student, I let my manager handle the business department,” he said. “I don't want to compromise my studies. I also am working on an album titled 5455 Music.”
