Jerico and Ward 39 tournament kicks off this Saturday

Ten U/15 teams from Ward 39 of the Thulamela Local Municipality are gearing up for the Jerico and Ward 39 Soccer Tournament. The tournament was officially launched during a ceremony held at the Jerico Hotel and Resort outside Thohoyandou last Friday (11).

A representative from the sponsors, Mr Kenneth Ramabada, said that their decision to sponsor the tournament was reached after it had come to their attention that the rate of alcohol and drug abuse was skyrocketing among the youth in the area. He said that sport had proven to be the best tool to take the youth off the streets.

The opening matches will be played at the Banyini Grounds on Saturday. Teams that will battle it out for the championship in the tournament are Matsika Shooting Stars, Vhudimbilu Royals, Jim Kone Disco Stars, Zwaloni Young Stars, Malavuwe Young Stars, Sidou Peace Makers, Muraga Hazard Hotspurs, Gondeni Real Chiefs, Malamangwa FC and Tshamutavha Hot Sand.
