VFA and TTM are ready for their Nedbank Cup clashes

The last-16 round fixtures for the Nedbank Cup KO Competition will be played this weekend. The two local GladAfrica Championship League teams, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC (TTM) and Venda Football Academy (VFA), are geared to crush their opponents and secure places in the quarter-final stage of the prestigious competition.

VFA will host the University of Pretoria FC at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Friday afternoon. VFA’s way to the last-16 stage went via African All Stars, whom they beat 3-1 at the same venue early last month. VFA and University of Pretoria (Amatuks) are closely contesting for the league championship. The fact that the two teams play entertaining football is reason for the fans to expect a thriller.

Whether the striking force for Amatuks will have enough strength to break VFA’s wall, marshalled by Gerald Takwara and the team’s skipper, Msekeli Mvala, remains to be seen. VFA played to a 1-1 draw with JDR Stars at the same venue last Sunday.

TTM will undertake a journey to the Eastern Cape for their match on Saturday. They will lock horns with the ABC Motsepe League side, Sinenkani FC, at the Mthatha Stadium. TTM did the unexpected when they beat the DStv Premiership League side, Lamontville Golden Arrows, 6-5 in their last-32 round match that was played at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

TTM’s number one goalkeeper, Edmore Sibande, will not be available for the game. He was taken to hospital in an ambulance after sustaining an injury in their game against Pretoria Callies at the Thohoyandou Stadium last Friday. Shane Kock will be expected to do the job in the absence of Sibande.

Swallows FC will have a date with Royal AM at the Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg. Platinum City Rovers will host Supersport United at the Olën Park Stadium in Potchefstroom.

The ABC Motsepe League sides, Summerfield Dynamos FC and Black Eagles FC, will fight for a place in the quarter-final stage at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban in one of the two matches that will be played on Sunday. The last fixture will be between TS Galaxy and Baroka FC at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
